There are generally just three types of "Pond People", those that love fish, those that love the plants and those that love both. Whichever category you fall into, the fascination with water is and always will be a calming nature for the soul. Before you begin with your new project, there are a few things that we need to discuss.
First decide if you will have fish in your new pond. Ponds with plants and ponds with plants and the extra bio-load of fish wastes make a difference and how things are done and what equipment is used. The more bio-load you place on the pond, the more you will have to filter, sterilize and maintain.
Different cultures have influenced the pond styles from the Japanese, who design their pond in the shape of the symbols for heart and mind to the European influences that use a more formal attitude when designing their masterpiece water garden. Both have been at it for centuries. The truly modern water garden, as we know it today was thought to have started in the 60’s with the introduction of pond liners and pre-formed pond shapes.
